UNIVERSITY PRIZES
1.
University Prizes shall be awarded by the University Council on the recommendation
of the Academic Board.

Prizes shall be awarded annually to students who, within the preceding twelve months,
have completed the academic requirements for the award of a master's degree, a
postgraduate degree with honours, an undergraduate degree with honours, or a
diploma with honours or distinction.
3.
Up to twelve prizes may be awarded on academic merit on the recommendation of the
faculties. Faculties may normally make the following number of awards: Commerce 2,
Creative Arts 1, Education 2, Engineering (2) and Forestry (1), Humanities and Social
Sciences 2, Law 1, and Science 2. In all Faculties except Law, the awards will be
determined in December. For Law the determination will normally be in March.
4.
No student may receive more than one University Prize. Senior Scholars and Sir
George Grey Scholars are not eligible for nomination for University Prizes.
5.
If in any year there are not sufficient suitable candidates fewer awards may be made.
NOTE: The current value of the prizes is $500 each.
