Amendment to Official Information Act Request 2025/40
On 29 July 2025, you made a request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA) for the
following information:
For the last two elections, can you please provide data on how many people enrolled in the
period between the start of advance voting, and election day, including:
1) Their breakdown by age group
2) Their breakdown by Māori descent
3) Their breakdown by general vs Māori roll
On 21 August 2025 we sent you a response to your request. Unfortunately, the response contained
slightly incorrect figures for the 2020 voting period enrolment actions and we apologise for this. This
came about as a result of the wrong date being used to pull the numbers: 2 October 2020 was used
as the beginning of the voting period, whereas 3 October 2020 should have been used. This means
that the number of enrolment actions that were taken during the 2020 voting period were slightly
lower than initially provided. Specifically, the number of electors enrolling for the first time is 2.6%
lower and electors updating their details is 2.9% lower than the figures we provided in August.
We have attached a corrected version of the spreadsheet provided, where the tabs referring to the
2020 advance voting period have been corrected.
In the interests of transparency, we release responses to Official Information Act requests every
three months. We will publish the corrected response to your request, rather than the original
response sent on 21 August 2025, with your personal details redacted.
You have the right under section 28(3) of the Act to make a complaint to the Ombudsman if you are
not satisfied with the correction to the response or the response to your request. Information about
how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
