OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST 2025/40
On Tuesday, 29 July 2025 you made a request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA) for
the following information:
For the last two elections, can you please provide data on how many people enrolled in the
period between the start of advance voting, and election day, including:
1) Their breakdown by age group
2) Their breakdown by Maori descent
3) Their breakdown by general vs Maori roll
We have attached a spreadsheet to this response containing the number of enrolled electors as at
the time of the 2020 and 2023 General Elections, broken down by roll type (Māori roll or general
roll), Māori descent, and age group and by those who enrolled or updated enrolment details during
the voting period and those who did not. Please refer to the ‘About this data’ tab in the spreadsheet
for information on how the statistics have been compiled.
In the interests of transparency, we release responses to Official Information Act requests every 3
months. We will publish this response with your personal details redacted.
You have the right under section 28(3) of the Act to make a complaint to the Ombudsman if you are
not satisfied with the response to your request. Information about how to do this is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
