OIA: [135641] – Early Intervention Study Awards data
Thank you for your email of 27 July 2025 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) requesting the
following information:
I am seeking the following information regarding the Early Intervention Study Award,
administered by the Ministry of Education:
1. The total number of applications received for the Early Intervention Study Award
for each year from 2019 to 2024 (inclusive).
2. The total number of awards granted for each of those years.
3. If available, a breakdown of applicants by employment type (e.g., Ministry-
employed Early Intervention Teacher, early childhood centre teacher, etc.).
4. Any relevant demographic or regional data (e.g., number of Māori or Pasifika
awardees, regional distribution) that is readily available and does not require
substantial collation.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
Please find attached, as
Appendix A, a table providing data held by the Ministry which is readily
retrievable and does not require substantial col ation or research to provide.
You wil note that some rows in the table are incomplete and are shaded orange. In those
instances, the requested data is not collated as a centrally held or consistent dataset and
attempting to respond to those parts of your request would require substantial collation and
research. Attempting to collate the data would require the manual location, collation and
assessment of individual applications held across different filing systems and would be a significant
administrative task to undertake. Therefore, your request for the following data:
Wellington National Office, 1 The Terrace, Levels 5 to 14, Wellington 6011
PO Box 1666, Wellington 6140, DX SR51201 Phone: +64 4 463 8000

is refused under section 18(f) of the Act as this information cannot be made available without
substantial collation and research. As required under sections 18A and 18B of the Act, we have
considered whether inviting you to clarify, extending the time limit or charging would enable a
substantive response to be provided. However, we do not consider any of these mechanisms
sufficiently mitigates the administrative burden associated with attempting to provide a response to
those parts of your request.
