Thank you for your recent comments, relating to our response to your request under the Of icial
Information Act 1982 (OIA) of 23 July for:

Response
As previously mentioned, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand – Te Pūtea Matua (RBNZ) has released
information regarding the former Governor’s departure. This is set out in the two public releases
below:
•
OIA requests for information about the resignation of Adrian Orr (11 June)
•
RBNZ responds to Chief Ombudsman decision (28 August)
The 27 February email you refer to is summarised in the timeline published as part of the 28
August release.
The email and related correspondence have been withheld under one or more of the fol owing
grounds under the OIA:
• Section 9(2)(a) – to protect the privacy of natural persons.
• Section 9(2)(ba)(i ) – to protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence,
where the making available of that information would be likely otherwise to damage the
public interest.
In making the decision to withhold, we have considered the public interest considerations in
section 9(1) of the OIA. We have not identified any public interest that would be suf icient to
outweigh the reasons for withholding the information.
Our decision-making processes have been reviewed and considered by the Of ice of the
Ombudsman.
