Official Information Act request: Fale Andrew Lesā
Thank you for your email of 18 August 2025 requesting under the Of icial Information Act
1982 information about al egations concerning Fale Andrew Lesā, who holds appointment as
a Visiting Justice and Justice of the Peace (JP). Following my earlier advice to you that Mr
Lesa has not resigned from those of ices, you have asked:
Has the Ministry initiated any internal processes to further investigate this matter?
The answer to your question is yes. Following media reports and other complaints, the
Associate Minister of Justice, Hon Nicole McKee, has asked the Ministry of Justice to
investigate and report back to her in respect of Mr Lesā’s statutory appointments as a JP
and Visiting Justice. That work remains ongoing.
You have also asked about policies or processes for lodging or investigating a formal
complaint against a Visiting Justice and Justice of the Peace. There is no specified policy or
process for the making or handling of a complaint to the Ministry or Minister in this situation.
You can simply email a complaint to the Ministry at
[email address] or to the
Minister at
[email address]. As I have explained, though, work is already
underway on that matter.
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
