Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 19 July 2025 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1) A detailed breakdown of the total cost of the Safety Camera transfer project since the Cabinet
decision was made in 2019 to 1 July 2025, including major expenditure categories and
components.
2) The number of times the project budget was exceeded, if any, and the amount by which the
budget was exceeded in each instance.
3) Details of any approved budget increases, if any, over the life of the project, including the date
and amount of each increase.
On 24 July 2025, you clarified you were primarily interested in the establishment of the NZ Transport
Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) capacity and capability to run safety camera operations.
In accordance with your request, please find enclosed

Programme costs showing the breakdown of the SCS Programme costs from Financial Year (FY)
2018/19 to FY 2024/25 at Annex A.
In November 2024, the NZTA Board approved $249.0 mil ion for the 2024-27 National Land Transport
Programme to cover all SCS Programme costs, including the transition to the business-as-usual SCS
team. As of 1 July 2025, the SCS Programme budget has not been exceeded.
In line with NZTA policy, this response will soon be published on our website, with personal
information removed.
