OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
I refer to your official information request of 16 July 2025 for:
−
In your report, you stated the ethnic breakdown of women board chairs as follows:
−
97 were New Zealand European or European (72.9%) • 39 were Māori (29.3%) • 8
were Pacific (6.0%) • 4 were Asian (3.0%)
−
Could you please specify the names of the boards where the 39 Māori, 8 Pacific, and
4 Asian women served as board chairs?
We have decided to refuse your request under section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information
Act. The release of the names of the Boards where the Chair is of Māori, Pacific or Asian
decent would lead to the disclosure of personal information regarding the ethnicity of the
board chairs that may not be in the public domain.
Although ethnicity data is used to inform our Stocktake of Gender and Ethnic Diversity on
Public Sector Boards and Committees, this information is anonymised prior to publication for
privacy reasons.
