Dear D. Gray
OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST 25.305 NASA and USNSF
I refer to the Official Information Act request dated 10 July 2025 for information relating to NASA and USNSF.
You have specifical y requested:
•
Under the Official Information Act, I am requesting information regarding any research or funding
connections between the University of Canterbury, (its departments, associated academics, and other
bodies) and the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).
•
I further request information regarding any research or funding connections between the University of
Canterbury (its departments, associated academics, and other bodies) and the United States National
Science Foundation, including:
•
The United States Antarctic Program (USAP)
•
Office of Polar Programs (GEO/OPP)
•
Directorate for Geosciences (GEO)
•
Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE)
•
Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP)
•
Directorate for Engineering (ENG)
•
Directorate for Geosciences (GEO)
•
These information requests include but are not limited to, names of academics or researchers who
receive funding from these sources, the quantity of funding, and the names of any programs or
research projects concerned.
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the
day we received your request. Unfortunately, it wil not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to Friday 22 August 2025.
This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that
a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. An increase in information
requests has meant that we are unable to meet the 20-working day timeframe and require a 2-week
extension.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about
how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
Information and Records Management
