Thank you for your email of 5 July 2025, to the Ministry of Business, Innova2on and Employment (MBIE)
reques2ng, under the Official Informa2on Act 1982 (the Act), the following informa2on:
Under the Official Informa on Act 1982, I request the following informa on concerning MBIE and
its ownership of Pure Turoa Limited: Future Government Funding for Ruapehu Ski Fields: 1) All internal communica ons (e.g., emails, memos, reports, mee ng minutes) held by MBIE
regarding the poten al for, or discussions about, any further government financial assistance or
funding to Pure Turoa Limited, or any en ty opera ng the Ruapehu Ski Fields, since 1 January
2025. 2) Any records of advice, briefings, or recommenda ons provided by MBIE to Ministers or the
Prime Minister concerning future government funding for Pure Turoa Limited or the Ruapehu Ski
Fields. 3) Any formal or informal requests for addi onal financial or other assistance received by MBIE
from Pure Turoa Limited or its representa ves since 1 January 2025. Correspondence with Pure Turoa Directors: 4) All correspondence (including, but not limited to, emails, le:ers, and records of mee ngs or
phone calls) held by MBIE between MBIE officials and the following directors (or their
representa ves) of Pure Turoa Limited: Gregory HICKMAN Cameron ROBERTSON Dean SCHMIDT Please provide this correspondence from 1 January 2025 to the present date. The purpose of this request is to enhance public understanding of MBIE's ongoing role as the
owner of Pure Turoa and MBIE's involvement on behalf of the New Zealand Government,
par cularly in light of public statements regarding the cessa on of government funding for the
Ruapehu ski fields.
Please note we have numbered your request for clarity.
In rela2on to parts one, two and three of your request, the informa2on iden2fied has been withheld in
full under the following sec2ons of the Act:
9(2)(b)(ii), to protect informa2on where the making available of the informa2on would be likely
unreasonably to prejudice the commercial posi2on of the person who supplied or who is the
subject of the informa2on;
9(2)(ba)(i), to protect informa2on which is subject to an obliga2on of confidence or which any
person has been or could be compelled to provide under the authority of any enactment, where
the making available of the informa2on would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar
informa2on, or informa2on from the same source, and it is in the public interest that such
informa2on should con2nue to be supplied;
9(2)(f)(iv), to maintain the cons2tu2onal conven2ons for the 2me being which protect the
confiden2ality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials;
9(2)(j), to enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisa2on holding the
informa2on to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage, nego2a2ons (including commercial
and industrial nego2a2ons).
In rela2on to part four of your request, MBIE will provide a response but needs to extend the 2me
available to make a decision on your request. MBIE’s response will be sent to you no later than 29 August
2025.
The reason for the extension is that the consulta2ons necessary for your request are such that a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original 2me limit.
