Re: Follow up - Budget: Waste Collection 
 
Thank you for your information request dated 4 August 2025, for follow up information about 
waste collection. 
 
The specific details of your request and our response is below: 
Please  provide  me  all  with  the  documentation  you  hold  which  shows  how  you  calculated 
estimated costs and budgets for the 2025/26 year for the contract area (or areas) that cover 
the Rodney Local Board area together with the calculations used and final budgets (if different 
from  calculation  please  say  and  show  why).  This  should  include  all  assumptions  used  to 
generate  estimates  and  any  values  like  number  of  properties  or  unit  costs  applied  in  the 
calculations including for contingencies 
 
The  targeted  rate for  the  standard refuse  service  is  set  uniformly  across  Auckland,  on  the 
basis of a uniform level of service (weekly collection of kerbside rubbish from a 120/140 litre 
bin, available for a full 12-month period) made available to the vast majority of properties in 
Auckland. 
 
Where  the  service  level  differs  from  the  standard,  a  differential  targeted  rate  applies.  For 
example a small refuse service (80 litre bin) attracts a lower targeted rate, and a large refuse 
service (240 litre bin) attracts a higher targeted rate. Properties in the former Rodney District 
also  pay  lower  charges,  recognising  the  shorter  period  the  rates  funded  refuse  service  is 
available to them during the 2025/2026 financial year.
