Official information request for regarding accord recognition of BSc in
Electronic and Computer Systems
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated 29 June 2025:
“Regarding the academic recognition status of the Bachelor of Science in
Electronic and Computer Systems (3-year degree) offered by your university.
Given that the content of this programme significantly overlaps with that of the 4-
year Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Electronics and Electrical
Engineering (which is recognised under the Washington Accord), please disclose
the following:
1.
Has this Bachelor of Science degree ever been submitted by the university to
Engineering New Zealand for evaluation to determine whether it may be
recognised as equivalent to the Sydney Accord or Dublin Accord standard,
for the purpose of professional engineering registration (e.g., as an
Engineering Technologist or Engineering Technician)?
2.
If it has not been recognised to date, please also disclose whether the
university has any intention or plan to apply for such accreditation in the
future, to enable graduates of this programme to qualify for registration as
Engineering Technologists or Engineering Technicians.”
The Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Computer Systems has not been submitted to
Engineering New Zealand for evaluation to determine whether it may be recognised as
equivalent to the Sydney Accord or Dublin Accord standard, and there are no plans to do
so. Therefore, your request is refused in accordance with s18(e) of the Act as the
information requested does not exist.
