Request for information: COVID19 vaccine purchases
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), which was
partial y transferred to Pharmac on 8 July 2025 for information relating to COVID19
vaccines. You requested:
“Please provide a list of the vaccines against COVID19 which the Ministry of Health
purchased in the three fiscal years 202021, 20212022, and
202223 inclusive (name and number of individual doses of vaccines) or any record
which includes this information.”
Please find the information requested in the spreadsheet attached.
Please note, the COVID19 contracts with Pfizer and Novavax were transferred to Pharmac
from the Ministry of Health in September and November 2022 respectively. This was part of
a longer project to transfer the management of COVID19 vaccines to Pharmac.
The data provided in this response is a record of doses purchased by Pharmac from the date
of novation to the end of the 2022/23 financial year (30 June 2023).
You raised in your email of 9 July 2025 that Pharmac’s website stated the fol owing:
“Management of COVID19 vaccines transferred to Pharmac from Ministry of Health
(Manatū Hauora) on 1 July 2023.”
This should have said that
funding of COVID19 vaccines transferred to Pharmac from the
Ministry of Health (Manatū Hauora) on 1 July 2023.
