Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority – Deputy Licensing Authority
Thank you for your email of 22 June 2025, requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act), information relating to expressions of interest sought for appointment of a Deputy
Licensing Authority. Specifically, you ask:
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website for this particular appointment round.
A copy of your ad as well. Also, how many applications you have received from the
public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as
TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and
how many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter
if there is one sent to the previous appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the
personal information.
For ease of reference, I have responded to each part of your request below.

May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website for this particular appointment round.
Expressions of interest were advertised on the Ministry of Justice website and through the
following legal sector publications:
LawTalk,
LawNews, and
Capital Letter. Additionally, a
letter was sent by the responsible Minister to coalition members seeking nominations.

A copy of the advertisement is attached.
3.
...how many applications you have received from the public and how many you have
received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for
your role.
Four expressions of interest were received. None were received via nominating agencies such as
Te Puni Kōkiri (TPK) or the Ministry for Women.

How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed.
Interviews have not yet been conducted but are expected to take place in July 2025.

Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one sent to the previous
appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal information.
A redacted sample of an appointment letter is attached. Some information has been withheld
under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect the privacy of natural persons.
In withholding information under section 9 of the Act, I have considered the public interest and
does not consider that it outweighs withholding the information at this time.
