Thank you for your email of 19 June 2025 requesting information relating to the regulation of 
industrial hemp in New Zealand. 
 
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) will not be able to respond within the timeframe set 
out in the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) in accordance with section 15A(1)(a) as your 
request necessitates a search through a large quantity of information and meeting the normal 
20-working-day time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of MPI. 
 
MPI will reply to your request by no later than 14 August 2025, earlier if possible. 
 
Should you have any concerns with this extension, I would encourage you to raise these with 
the Ministry for Primary Industries at [email address]. Alternatively, you 
are advised of your right to also raise any concerns with the Office of the Ombudsman.
