May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well. Also, how many applications you
have received for each of the role from the public and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have
shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the appointment
letter if there is one sent to the previous appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the
personal information.
On 11 July 2025 the due date for response was extended to 28 July 2025. The reason for the extension
applies to section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the request
were such that a proper response could not be made within the original time limit.

Public nominations for the
Building Practitioners Board Member positions were as follows:
• Called for public nominations on Jobs.Govt.nz, Seek.co and the MBIE website.
• The advert was also circulated through nominating agencies, specifically Ministry for Women,
Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Disabled People, and
Te Puni Kokiri. Caucus and coalition colleagues were invited to nominate candidates. The
current member whose terms was expiring was invited to apply for reappointment.
• We received 15 applications.

• We did not receive any applications via nominating agencies or Ministerial nominees.
• We have not yet shortlisted any candidates, nor conducted any interviews.
• The most recent previous appointments were Cory Lang, Elinor McDouall, and Sue Chetwin.

WorkSafe New Zealand Board Member positions were as follows:
• Called for public nominations on Jobs.Govt.nz, Seek, and the MBIE website. The role was also
advertised using LinkedIn and Google adverts.
• The advert was circulated through nominating agencies, specifically Ministry for Women,
Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Disabled People, and
Te Puni Kokiri. Caucus and coalition colleagues were invited to nominate candidates. Current
members whose terms were expiring were invited to apply for reappointment.
• We received 17 applications for the Chair role, 84 for the education and engagement member,
and 34 for the worker perspective member.
• Nominating agency responses: two - one from Ministry for Women, one from Ministry of Ethnic
Communities.
• We did not receive any applications via Ministerial nominees.
• We have not yet shortlisted any candidates, nor conducted any interviews.
Copies of the advertised WorkSafe New Zealand Board Chairperson and WorkSafe New Zealand Board
Member position description are enclosed with this response.
Copies of the
appointment letters sent to the previous appointees Elena Trout, Kevin Jenkins and Paul
Connell are also enclosed with this response. Please note that some information in these letters is
withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons.
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest
considerations in making the information available.
