Official Information Act request: Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Act 2014
Thank you for your email of 9 June 2025 to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry), requesting
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), regarding the Public Safety
(Public Protection Orders) Act 2014. Specifically, you requested:
May I kindly ask:
1. the name of current panel members,
2. their appointment expired date,
3. a sample letter of appointment sent to the appointees and
4. how did you call for nomination last round.
5. Also, their pay rates.
Your request has been numbered for ease of responding.
In response to parts 1 and 2 of your request, I have attached the most recent
Organisation
Form for the review panel. This document provides a brief outline of the functions and
responsibilities of the organisation, as well as the present members and the expiration dates
of their appointment terms.
Please note, a membership review is currently underway. In the meantime, members will
remain in place under carry over provisions.
In response to part 3 of your request, I have attached a sample letter sent to applicants upon
their appointment as a member. Please note that some information has been withheld under
s9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect the privacy of natural persons.
In response to part 4 of your request, given the judicial nature of the roles, there was no
public call for an expression of interest when the last appointment review was conducted.
The membership is largely drawn from present or former members of the Parole Board.
In response to part 5 of your request, I understand the current rate of remuneration for non-
judicial panel members is $616 per day. Current and former judicial members are
remunerated at the relevant daily rate for an Acting Judge set by the Remuneration
Authority.

The Remuneration Authority is an independent organisation and is responsible for setting
the remuneration of key Public Sector office holders. Information on the remuneration of
Chief Executives, senior staff in Government departments and agencies, and officers of
Parliament is included, in bands, on the Public Service Commission website.
Information on individuals appointed under the Crown Entities Act 2004 whose remuneration
is set by the Authority is included, in bands, in the relevant organisations’ annual reports.
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
Ministry website at:
