the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
“please advise why the New Zealand Government did not make any notifications to
the United Nations Secretary General?”
As stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (the Ministry) letter to you, dated
1 July 2025, the New Zealand Government did not make any notifications to the
United Nations Secretary General regarding any pandemic measures that derogate from
the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
One document containing legal advice is in scope of your request. This document is
withheld under section 9(2)(h) of the OIA, to protect legal privilege. No public interest
in releasing the information has been identified that would override the reasons for
withholding it.
