The Archives Council is an unincorporated body established under section 14 of the Public
Records Act 2005 (the Act). It provides independent advice on recordkeeping and archive
matters to the Minister of Internal Affairs, who is responsible for Archives New Zealand.

Candidates should possess several of the fol owing attributes:
knowledge and expertise in regulation as it relates to public sector records and

information management, particularly digital information and matters regarding data
sovereignty
experience with the machinery of government and knowledge of public sector Act
governance, management and accountability processes
combined operational digital information management experience, including the use
of Artificial Intel igence and emerging technologies, and policy knowledge and
perspectives
experience in community archives, information, and records management
practical and technical archives management and operations experience.

for members is $315 per day. Members are reimbursed for travel and other reasonable
expenses incurred. Travel and other actual and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Term of office
Under section 14 (4) of the Act you will continue in office at the expiry of your term until you
are reappointed, replaced by a successor, or removed from office by the Minister of Internal
Affairs.
You may resign from office by written notice to me at any time, with a copy to the
Department of Internal Affairs (the Department), stating the date on which your resignation
will be effective.
Conflicts of interest
It is important that as a member of the Archives Council, you have a clear understanding of
how to deal with any actual or potential conflicts of interest. I expect that you will declare
any actual or potential conflict of interest or probity issue that may arise to the Chair of the
Archives Council who will then take the appropriate steps to manage that conflict.
Code of Conduct for Crown Entity Board Members
In discharging your duties, I expect you to act in the spirit of service and with the highest
levels of integrity and professional and personal standards. This includes being familiar with
and acting in accordance with the
Code of Conduct for Crown Entity Board Members1 issued
by the Public Service Commissioner under section 17(3) of the Public Service Act 2020.
