Thank you for your email dated 2 June 2025 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wellington City Council (the
Council) requesting the fol owing information:
Funding Request:

Please provide each payment made to the Wellington Natural Heritage Trust (WNHT) as
Grant, Capital or Operational or other Ongoing Expense.

Please provide the full list of occasions, amounts, date, purpose this occurred.

Are there any other payments of any kind that have or are planned to be made to WNHT. If
so, please provide the full list of occasions, amounts, date, purpose this occurred.

payers?

Grant Funding: Wellington Natural Heritage Trust
Note:
• Applicants must provide a detailed budget, including al funding sources, and clearly outline the project's
objectives, participants, timeline, and outcomes.
• The Council’s Urban Ecology team wil assess the application and make recommendations. Council ors
approve applications through the Grants Subcommittee.
• Successful applicants must submit an accountability report either upon project completion or within one year
of the funding round's closure. This is then reviewed and approved by the relevant subject matter expert, in
this case via the Council’s Urban Ecology team. Within the reporting, the grantees are asked to provide detail
about the funded project and what the successes and chal enges were; once the report is approved, the
status of the Grant is then changed to ‘closed’.
• As of 1 July 2025, there are no planned payments for grants funding.

Note:
• Our Natural Capital Wellington’s Biodiversity and Action Plan
(https://wellington.govt.nz/your-
council/plans-policies-and-bylaws/policies/biodiversity-strategy-and-action-plan) outlines protection on
Council and private land. Due to the over subscription of the Natural Environment Fund, the decision was
made for the Urban Ecology Team to fund the work operationally.
• Most operational funding provided by Council is agreed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with WNHT.
• Monitoring of the MOU is undertaken by:
o Data recorded in Greater Wellington Regional Council’s (GWRC) monitoring system.
o Regular progress reports that include highlights of work undertaken, operational issues and future
work planned.
o Site visits with Council Officers & WNHT.
