Official Information Act request: Transcripts of Human Rights Review Tribunal 
hearings 
 
Thank you for your email of 30 May 2025 to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) requesting, 
under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), information regarding Human Rights 
Review Tribunal (HRRT) hearing transcripts. Specifically, you requested:  
 
What is the number of working days, for the Ministry of Justice, to release written 
transcripts from cases held in the Human Rights Tribunal? 
 
In response to your request, the decision to release a hearing transcript is at the discretion of 
the HRRT. The Ministry does not hold information on the total number of working days it 
takes to release an HRRT hearing transcript. Your request is therefore refused under 
s18(g)(i) of the Act as the information requested is not held by the Ministry and there are no 
grounds for believing the information is held by another agency that is subject to the Act.
