Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-040257
Thank you for your email of 20 May 2025, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I am requesting information regarding ACC’s response to methamphetamine-related harm in Te
Tai Tokerau/Northland.
Specifical y, I request:
- The number of accepted ACC claims in Northland from 1 January 2022 to present where
methamphetamine use was a contributing factor to injury, mental harm, or treatment injury.
- A breakdown of the types of support or rehabilitation services funded by ACC in Northland for
claimants where methamphetamine use was identified (e.g. counsel ing, addiction services,
reintegration support).
- Any internal briefings, reports, or inter-agency correspondence discussing methamphetamine-
related harm and ACC’s role in Northland communities during this timeframe.
ACC claims for methamphetamine-related harm
ACC does not specifically collect and record information about factors which may have contributed to
the cause of injuries. As a no-fault system, ACC does not require this level of information for making
decisions on cover. As such, we are refusing this part of your request as the information is not held by
ACC. This decision has been made under section 18(g)(i) of the Act.
Support/rehabilitation services funded by ACC
ACC can consider drug and alcohol rehabilitation services for individuals who have an injury related
need, and the addiction is a barrier to their rehabilitation or achieving work readiness. This is
considered on a case-by-case basis. You can find information on the types of support ACC provides on

Any internal briefings, reports, or inter-agency correspondence
We have not located any internal briefings, reports, or inter-agency correspondence discussing
methamphetamine-related harm and ACC’s role in the Northland area. As such, we are refusing this
part of your request as the information is not held by ACC. This decision has been made under section
18(g)(i) of the Act.
