Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 14 May 2025. You
requested:
Was there a directive from leadership to change standards at the police
college in 2024 or 2025?
I wish to request emails between staff at the police college and leadership
regarding changes to standards at the police college.
In 2023, the New Zealand Police reviewed the recruit initial training programme and
moved from a 16-week residential programme to a 20-week residential programme. The
first wing of 20 weeks commenced on Monday 8 January 2024. No standards were
changed, rather more time was provided to enable recruits to embed the skills,
knowledge and expectations required as a NZ Police constable.
Your request for emails between staff at the Royal New Zealand Police Col ege (RNZPC)
and leadership regarding changes to standards at the RNZPC is therefore refused under
section 18 (e) of the OIA as the document alleged to contain the information requested
does not exist.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
