Request for information 2025-150
I refer to your request for information dated 09 May 2025, which was received by Greater
Wellington Regional Council (Greater Wellington) on 09 May 2025. You have requested the
following:
“The 19e bus route between Churton Park and Brandon Street stopped operating during the
Covid lockdown period.
Please provide the rationale and any correspondence (internal or external) for terminating this
route, and any rationale or correspondence (internal or external) regarding a possible
reinstatement of the 19e bus route.”
Greater Wellington’s response follows:
Route 19e, along with a number of other services, was suspended in July 2021 as a result of
driver shortages. There were a series of timetable changes that were made to manage the high
number of cancellations with the labour shortages and provide a reliable and consistent service
for passengers. The catchment is currently covered by route 19 services with connection
opportunities at Johnsonville for travel to and from the city.
Route 19e remains listed in our Regional Public Transport Plan and is considered to be a route
that will be reinstated when demand requires it and resources and funding permit.
Please see
Attachment 1 for the correspondence related to the suspension and reinstatement
of this route. We have removed out of scope information and redacted personal details under
section 7(2)(a) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 on the
grounds that the withholding of the information is necessary to protect the privacy of natural
persons, including that of deceased natural persons.
