OIA: 1347317 - Breakdown of NEX funding use by science-related subject associations
Thank you for your email of 7 May 2025 via the FYI website to the Ministry of Education (the
Ministry) requesting the following information:
I am seeking a breakdown of how Teacher Development Aotearoa (NEX Funding) was spent
by science-related subject associations between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024. In
particular, I am interested in funding awarded to or used by the following associations:
•
New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE)
•
Secondary Chemistry Educators of New Zealand (SCENZ)
•
New Zealand Institute of Physics (NZIP) education arm
Please provide:
1. The total amount of NEX funding allocated to each of the above associations during the
period.
2. A detailed breakdown of how each association spent or intends to spend the funds (e.g.
staffing, travel, resource development, events, professional development delivery).
3. Any funding agreements, reports, or accountability documents submitted to the Ministry
by these associations regarding their NEX funding use.
4.
Any communications or internal documentation that discuss or summarises the use or
effectiveness of NEX funding by these science-related associations.
Your request has been considered under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act).
The Ministry needs to extend the timeframe for responding to your request, pursuant to section
15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a
proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. You can now expect to
receive a response to your request on or before 4 July 2025, which is an extension of 20 working
days.
