I write in response to your OIA request of May 2, 2025:  
 
I am writing to seek a list of any still-living individuals for whom Radio New Zealand has partially 
or totally written a draft obituary for. 
 
In terms of this request, the names are withheld on the basis of: 
- 
Section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act: to protect the privacy of natural persons. 
 
What I can tell you is that RNZ has about 250 obituaries in draft form for still-living New Zealanders. 
They  cover  a  range  of  figures  from  politics,  the  arts,  sciences,  and  business.  The  choice  is  made 
independently  by  the  RNZ  newsroom,  and  all  information  contained  in  the  draft  obituaries  is 
confidential. 
 
Our  obituaries  are exclusively  of  New  Zealanders,  but  we  have access  to a  range of  foreign  news 
services, including Reuters, the BBC and CNN, for well-known people from other countries. 
 
You  have  a  right  to  seek  an  investigation  and  review  by  the  Ombudsman  of  the  above  outcome.
