Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 2 May 2025 to the 
Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama Aotearoa, requesting the following information: 
 
1. The total number of guided releases conducted at each prison over the past 6 
months. 
2. If guided releases are not occurring, please provide an explanation for their 
suspension at each site. 
3. When are guided releases expected to resume at each site? 
4. The number of staff employed solely to conduct guided releases at each site. 
5. Can guided release take place pre first parole for life sentenced inmate’s? 
6. If so what is the specific criteria, for life sentenced and non life sentenced? 
7. At what point does one become eligible for application of guided release, both life 
sentenced and non life sentenced? 
 
Corrections needs to extend the timeframe of our response to your request by 20 working 
days, pursuant to section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA, as consultations necessary to make a 
decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably 
be made within the original time limit. Therefore, you can expect to receive a response to 
your request by 1 July 2025. If you no longer require this information, please let us know as 
soon as possible.
