The information for these tables was collated on Monday 7 May 2025 and is accurate as at this
date.
I can advise that the jobs based overseas for the Department are part of the Services and Access
Business group in the Regulatory and Identity Services Branch. These jobs are mainly processing
passport applications, and a small number of citizenship by descent registrations.
It may be helpful to explain that since 2020 the Department has operated one job description
for Life Identity Service Officer (LISO) that covers our Births, Deaths and Marriages, Passport,
Identity Verification Service, Citizenship, Contact Centre and Operations processing staff. This
means staff can move between many tasks if required – though staff in London and Sydney
currently work between passports and citizenship by descent.
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the Department has
decided to proactively release a copy of this response on the DIA website. All requestor data,
including your name and contact details, will be removed prior to release. The released
response will be made available here:
https://www.dia.govt.nz/Official-Information-Act-
Requests-2.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
