[FYI request #30809 email]
Dear Valerie,
I am writing about a request for information you made on 23 April 2025, for documents associated
with the Forestry and Wood Processing Industry Transformation Plan application by
Bioplant
Tairāwhiti – reference OIA25-0284.
On 14 May, MPI advised you that your request was declined under section 9(2)(j) –
to enable a
Minister of the Crown or any department or organisation holding the information to carry out,
without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations.
Subsequently, the Office of the Ombudsman has let us know that you have complained about our
decision on your request. I understand that the substance of your complaint is that you believe that
irrespective of any consent application being sought, the information about an application for a
grant of public money, and the assessment of that application, should be available to the public.
In the interest of resolving your complaint, MPI has decided to reconsider our approach to your
request. We wil assess each of the documents for release to you. If information that we determine
does need to be withheld, we wil consider providing a summary of that information.
We wil communicate a new decision as soon as possible. It is likely that MPI wil need to consult
with other organisations before any information can be released to you and I wil let you know as
soon as possible if consultation on your request means we need more time to respond.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Michelle Morehu
