Official Information Act request: Costs Related to Simeon
Brown as Minister of Health
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), received on 19
April 2025. You requested:
“I’m requesting the following information about Simeon Brown in his role as Minister of
Health. This request is only about his Minister of Health portfolio - I’m not asking for any
information about his other roles, or anything held by the Ministry of Health or Health NZ.
1. What is the salary, and any extra entitlements or allowances, that Simeon Brown
receives in his role as Minister of Health?
2. What is the total annual budget for Simeon Brown’s Minister of Health office (through
Parliamentary Services)? If possible, please include a breakdown of spending (for example,
staffing costs, operational costs, etc.).
3. How many staff work in Simeon Brown’s Minister of Health office? Please include:
Number of full-time equivalent (FTE) staff; Their position titles; Salary bands or ranges (if
available); Whether they’re permanent, fixed-term or seconded
4. Have any consultants or contractors been hired through the Minister of Health office
since Simeon Brown took on the role? If so, please include: The name of the contractor (or
organisation, if available); What they were hired to do; How much they were paid
5. What has been spent on transport for Simeon Brown in his role as Minister of Health -
including flights, car use, driver services, or anything else - since he became Minister?
6. Please also include copies of any guidelines or policies used by Parliamentary Services
or DPMC that relate to spending, staffing or procurement in Ministerial offices.”
This office does not hold the relevant information. I believe this request is more closely related to
the functions of the Department of Internal Affairs (Ministerial Services) and therefore I am
transferring the request under section 14(b)(i) of the Act. DIA have the usual time limits from the
date of receipt of this transfer to make a decision on your request.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under section
28(3) of the Act.
