Thank you for your information request dated 17 April, seeking details regarding the 
Future of Severely Affected Land.  You have asked - 
  
Were  there  any  properties  with  moderate  or  minor  damage  and  posing  an 
intolerable  risk  to  life  accepted  for  FOSAL  categorization  and  could  I  have 
statistics if available please. 
 
We are unable  to provide comprehensive  details of  this because the categorisation 
process looks at the likelihood of risk to life in future severe weather events and is not 
determined  or  influenced  by  the  amount  of  storm  damage  a  property  may  have 
previously sustained.  
 
Following  the  voluntary  categorisation  programme,  the  following  categories  were 
issued to Auckland properties where there is intolerable risk to life: 
 
•  Category 3 = 1197 properties 
•  Category 2P = 146 properties 
•  Category 2C = 32 properties 
 
Many of these properties will have sustained moderate or minor damage following the 
2023 North Island Weather Events, however this information is not recorded as part 
of the risk assessment/categorisation process. 
 
The  decision  by  Auckland  Council  to  release  the  information  contained  in  this 
response was made by Mace Ward, Group Recovery Manager.
