Official Information Act request: Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal
Thank you for your email of 15 April 2025 requesting information, under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act) regarding nominations for appointment to the Canterbury
Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal. Specifically, you requested:
I noted, you have call for nomination for Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal
https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2020-go1686
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website for this particular appointment round. A
copy of your ad as well. Also, how many applications you have received from the
public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as
TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and how
many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there
is one sent to the appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal
information.
Also, I would like to request the term of reference of this Tribunal, job description of
it's member and pay rates for meeting. When their term going to expired.
In response to your request, please note that the link you provided dates back to
appointments made in 2020 and there is no present process underway in respect of
appointments or reappointments to that Tribunal.
In relation to those appointments, the (then) new vacancies were advertised in the NZ Law
Society publication
LawPoints and locally in
The Press newspaper. Two of the appointments
were reappointments of two of the initial members of the Tribunal (Paul Cogswell and Kevin
Kilgour).
Seventeen expressions of interest were received and 10 were shortlisted. No nominations
were received.
The appointment process commenced in 2019 and pre-dates our present appointments
record system. I do not have a copy of either the role description used nor of the applicable
rates of remuneration at that time, however I can advise that the fees are set under the
Cabinet Fees Framework and member rates are
presently set at $823 per day. The Chair
rate is $923 per day.
The expiration date of the warrants is set out in the link to the gazette notice that you have
provided.
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
