Tēnā koe Miss Es,
Thank you for your email of 14 April 2025 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
I'm looking to understand more about our current governance and structure within INZ, and the
teams involved with protecting public interest. As of 2025, could you please provide the current
organisational structure, titles and names of the verification and compliance department as wel
as operations and investigations. Within these, would you please provide an organized chart of all
current personnel and their titles.
Our response
A copy of the current organisation chart for Immigration Compliance and Investigations (ICI) is attached.
Please note that ICI is not a part of Immigration New Zealand within MBIE and sits under the Te
Whakatairanga Service Delivery group. ICI does however still contribute to the wider immigration system.
Our investigations and compliance teams investigate immigration offending, ensure employers comply
with immigration law, and ensure migrants comply with the conditions of their visas and are in New
Zealand lawfully.
This includes managing breaches of and investigating offences against the Immigration Act 2009.
Breaches or offences range from residing in New Zealand unlawfully, employing a migrant outside of the
conditions of their visa, and providing false information on a visa application, to trafficking in persons. A
breach or offence could result in deportation from New Zealand or criminal charges being laid.
Some information has been withheld in reliance on 6(a) of the Act as the making available of the
information would be likely to prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international
relations of the Government of New Zealand.
Other information has been withheld in reliance on section 9(2)(a) of the Act as the withholding of the
information is necessary to protect the privacy of individuals.
Further information about the Compliance and Investigations work can be found on the Immigration New
Zealand website here:

topics/investigations-and-compliance
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, or if you require any further assistance,

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
