Official Information Act request relating to communications to ministers on
communication platforms
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 7 May 2025.
You requested:
Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request all guidance provided to all
Ministers regarding communication.
1. Guidance on using text message platforms, in particular directives to not use
any particular messaging platforms.
2. Guidance on using social media platforms, including but not limited to, TikTok,
Instagram, Facebook, in particular any directives to not use any particular social
media platforms.
3. Guidance on using email addresses other than Parliamentary addresses, in
particular any guidance on using gmail or other types of email.
On 7 May 2025, your request was partially transferred from the Prime Minster, Rt Hon
Christopher Luxon, for any information the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
(DPMC) may hold that is relevant to your request.
Information being released
I have decided to release excerpts, as per section 16(1)(e) of the Act, from the relevant parts
of the documents listed below for items [1] – [3].
Also identified as relevant to this request is an email that was released to you under the
request you made to the Prime Minister Ref: PMO OIA 385-2024-25. For transparency, it is
being included here too.
Please note, some information is being withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect
the privacy of individuals. A small amount of information is not in scope of your request and
is marked accordingly.
