Dear Sarah
Official Information Act request: Communications to ministers on communication
platforms
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), received
on 12 April 2025. You requested:
“
Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request all guidance provided to all
Ministers regarding communication.
1. Guidance on using text message platforms, in particular directives to not use
any particular messaging platforms.
2. Guidance on using social media platforms, including but not limited to, TikTok,
Instagram, Facebook, in particular any directives to not use any particular social
media platforms.
3. Guidance on using email addresses other than Parliamentary addresses, in
particular any guidance on using gmail or other types of email. ”
.
I believe part of your request is more closely connected to the functions of the Department of
the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). Accordingly, I have decided to transfer your request
to DPMC under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act for any information they may hold. I will respond in
due course with any information this office holds.
As it is already outside of the ten working day time limit for transferring a request, I have
extended the time-limit available to make this transfer under section 15(A) of the Act. This
extension is required because of the consultation that was needed to make a decision on
your request.
DPMC has the usual time limits from receipt of this transfer to make a decision on your
request.
Yours sincerely
Cameron Burrows
Chief of Staff
