Notes about this data:
• Data is sourced from Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) and may be subject to any
data quality issues still to be resolved in AIR, which include, but are not limited to
incorrect vaccination event dates, miscoding of vaccination given, miscoded indication
code, miscoding of person to vaccination event. Note that these data quality issues are
largely attributed to the fact that many fields within AIR are free text and are therefore
prone to data entry errors.
• Batch fields are free-text fields and might not always be completed correctly resulting
in data quality issues. It is difficult to ensure the accuracy of all the data using this field.
• Batches have been broken down into lots where normally the lot number is suffixed to
the batch ID as free text. To get around this we have identified the batch by removing
suffixes preceded by a space, hyphen, or a comma. These might not fully account for
all the data cleansing required for example if the vaccinator directly attached the suffix
to the batch ID (i.e. batch_idsuffix), we are unable to distinguish the suffix from the
batch ID.
• Since the time most of the batches were recorded, the data has been transferred from
the COVID-19 Immunisation Register to AIR and some information may have
undergone data quality checks or was not able to be brought over.
• During the vaccination program batches were broken into lots and lots were broken
into vials which were used for doses.
• Although there was a theoretical number of doses per vial, there were times vials were
underutilised and other times vials were more efficiently utilized. As a result,
vaccinators got more than the theoretical number of doses from a vial.
