Human Rights Review Tribunal / Taraipiunara Mana Tangata - Panel Members
Thank you for your email of 25 March 2025 requesting, under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act), information relating to expressions of interest sought for appointment of
Panel Members for the Human Rights Review Tribunal (the Tribunal). Specifically, you have
asked:
May I ask how many you are looking to appoint this round and when you
expect the recruitment for this round likely to be concluded.
Also I noted "Nominations were sought by the Associate Minister of Justice,
Hon Nicole McKee to caucus colleagues by way of letter. Te Hunga Rōia
Māori o Aotearoa (The Māori Law Society), the Pacific Lawyers Association
and the New Zealand Asian Lawyers were also notified of the public call for
expressions of interest. "
Can you please supply the copy of the letter to caucus colleagues.
Also, how are the Pacific Lawyers Association and the New Zealand Asian
Lawyers were also notified of the public call for expressions of interest. Can
you please supply the relevant communication of how they are notified?
For ease of reference, I have separated out your request and responded to each part.
...how many you are looking to appoint this round and when you expect the
recruitment for this round likely to be concluded.
As mentioned in my letter of 16 April 2025 (Ref: OIA 119827), the Tribunal is seeking to
appoint three new members. Various factors mean it is difficult to provide a specific
timeframe of when the recruitment round may be completed, but it is hoped that it will be
within the next couple of months.
...I noted “Nominations were sought by the Associate Minister of Justice, Hon Nicole
McKee to caucus colleagues”…can you please supply the copy of the letter to caucus
colleagues.
A copy of the letter, titled
01. Letter to Caucus colleagues re nominations is attached.
...how are the Pacific Lawyers Association and the New Zealand Asian Lawyers were
also notified of the public call for expressions of interest. Can you please supply the
relevant communication of how they are notified?
These organisations were contacted by the Ministry of Justice via email. A copy of the
message sent to the organisations, titled
02. Email to external organisations is also attached.
