The Public Service Commissioner has also issued a Code of Conduct for Crown Entity Board
Members which you will find useful for your role as a board member of the Commission.
Remuneration
As the Commission is an independent Crown entity, remuneration for board members is
determined by the Remuneration Authority (the Authority). Board members exercise their role
on a part-time basis and their remuneration set by the Authority is on a daily rate basis.
It is appreciated that, as a new entity, there may be a greater workload for board members in
the initial stages, but the board roles will still be part-time. It is appropriate therefore to have a
framework for the payment of the daily rate set by the Authority.
For members, remuneration may be claimed for up to 30 days of a financial year for approved
board work subject to the proviso below.
The proviso is that the Chairperson of the Commission can request approval for additional
days (contingency) for all or any of the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson (if any), and
members, from me as the Minister for Sport and Recreation, provided the need for additional
days can be justified. This contingency request would be through the Ministry for Culture
and Heritage.
The Commission’s board manual will outline the procedures for payment of board members
remuneration.
Appointment
I would appreciate it if you would respect the confidentiality of this information until your
appointment is formally announced. Advice of your appointment will also be published in the
New Zealand Gazette.
The details of your appointment are set out in the attached notice signed by the Governor-
General as required by the Crown Entities Act 2004. Please email Ministry officials at
[email address] to confirm receipt of the notice.
I look forward to working with the Commission in the very important role that it has. I trust you
will find serving as a board member of the Commission a rewarding experience.
Yours sincerely
Hon Chris Bishop
