I refer to your request(s) under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) received on 23 March
2025 requesting the following information from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (Ministry):
“I would like to request information from Immigration New Zealand on the latest and
currently effective Guideline for Medical Assessors. I’m hoping to understand the
criteria/rules of test results to be considered acceptable health standard. In particular, I’m
interested in Guideline for Hepatitis B Assessments and only in the latest and currently
effective guidelines.”
Our Response
Please find attached as Appendix A the Immigration New Zealand Guidelines for Medical Assessors
(INZ 1378) which are the overarching guidelines for the Medical Assessors.
This document refers to supplementary guidelines for specific conditions, which includes Hepatitis B.
The Hepatitis B guidelines which have been attached as Appendix B were last updated in 2018.
Please note these guidelines require updating and it is expected they wil be reissued within the next
few months.
