Thank you for your email of 18 March 2025 to the Ministry of Business, Innovafion and
Employment (MBIE) requesfing, under the Official Informafion Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing
informafion:
Under the provisions of the Official Informafion Act 1982, I request access to any
communicafions, in any form, between the Energy Department of the Ministry for
Business, Innovafion and Employment and Energy Resources Aotearoa during the period
from 17 December 2024 to 17 March 2025. This includes, but is not limited to, emails, text
messages, lefters, meefing minutes, and messages exchanged via communicafion
applicafions such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
On 15 April 2025 MBIE contacted you to advise that we were extending your request by 20
working days, as consultafions were necessary to make a decision on your request.
Please find aftached the documentafion relevant to your request. The emails in scope have been
compiled into one document bundle, in chronological order.
Please note some informafion has been withheld under the fol owing secfions of the Act:
9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural
persons;
9(2)(ba)(i), to protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence or which
any person has been or could be compelled to provide under the authority of any
enactment, where the making available of the information would be likely to prejudice
the supply of similar information, or information from the same source, and it is in the
public interest that such information should continue to be supplied; and
9(2)(f)(iv), to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect
the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials.
Informafion has also been redacted where it is out of scope.
I do not consider that the withholding of this informafion is outweighed by public interest
considerafions in making the informafion available. Informafion has been withheld to protect the
privacy of people involved in the communicafions requested, and in cases where informafion has
been provided in a free and frank manner, or in confidence.
