Thank you for your correspondence of 13 March 2025 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
1. How many applications for the "Parent Retirement Category" have been received by the
department for from 2020 - 2024.
2. For each of the application received, what was the applicant's country of origin?
3. For each of the application received, along with their country of origin, what was their outcome?
4. in addition to number 3 above, how long did it take to process their application to arrive at the
outcome?
Please provide the requested data in a spreadsheet format with the fol owing column headers:
Application #, Date received, Country of origin, Outcome of application (i.e. declined or successful, days
taken to reach decision.
On 10 April 2025, we extended the period of time available to make a decision on your request under
section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a
proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. We advised that
MBIE would notify you of a decision on your request no later than 24 April 2025.
On 24 April 2025, we advised that MBIE had assessed and decided to grant your request and would provide
you the requested information as soon as it is ready and without undue delay. We sincerely apologise for
the delay in responding to your request.
Our response
Please refer to the attached appendix for the data related to the Parent Retirement Category. Please note
that the individual application numbers have been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, as the
withholding of the information is necessary to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of
deceased natural persons.
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest considerations
in making the information available.
