Thank  you  for  your  correspondence  of  13  March  2025  to  the  Ministry  of  Business,  Innovation  and 
Employment (MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
1: How many applications for the "Parent Retirement Category" have been received by the 
department for from 2020 - 2024.
2: For each of the application received, what was the applicant's country of origin?
3: For each of the application received, along with their country of origin, what was their 
outcome?
4: in addition to number 3 above, how long did it take to process their application to arrive at the 
outcome?
Please provide the requested data in a spreadsheet format with the following column headers:
Application #, Date received, Country of origin, Outcome of application (i.e. declined or successful, 
days taken to reach decision.
I am writing to advise you that MBIE has decided to extend the period of time available to make a decision 
on your request under section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on your 
request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time 
limit. MBIE will notify you of a decision on your request no later than 24 April 2025.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of our decision to extend the 
time limit. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or 
freephone 0800 802 602.
