Thank you for your request of 6 March 2025 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wel ington City Council (the 
Council) requesting the following information: 
 
•  “I note rubbish bags now cost $4 each. Can you advise me what the cost of a WCC rubbish 
bag has been over the last ten years - ie what was the cost in 2015, and each time it has 
increased, and to what level.” 
 
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act 
1987 (LGOIMA).  
 
Please find the below table for the cost of rubbish bags from 2015 to 2025. Please note that the 
recommended retail price (RRP) for Council yel ow rubbish bags reflects the costs to deliver the 
service - meaning that it includes the cost of the bag itself as well as the cost of kerbside col ection 
and disposal to landfil .
