Official Information Act request: Number of interviews requested by media outlets and 
the outcome of those requests 
 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 4 March 
2025. You requested: 
 
“Please provide the number of interview requests by media outlet including the number 
of rejections or acceptances by outlet during your time as the prime minister.” 
 
I have interpreted your request as being for:  
a)  the total number of interview requests to the Prime Minister (PM), in his capacity as 
PM, received since he took office on 27 November 2023 
b)  a breakdown of a) by interviews accepted or rejected 
c)  a breakdown of a) and b) by media outlet. 
 
Interviews the PM has given from 27 November 2023 to 31 January 2025 are listed in his 
ministerial diaries, which are proactively released on the Beehive website: Ministerial diaries. 
This includes the media outlet to whom the interview was given.  
 
Information on interview acceptances from 1 February to 4 March 2025 has not yet published 
on the Beehive website but will be soon as part of the regular proactive release process. The 
part of your request for the total number of interviews accepted, broken down by media 
outlet, is therefore refused under section 18(d) of the Act as the information is, or will soon 
be, publicly available. 
 
The PM receives many interview requests, via a range of channels, and I have determined 
that the manual work required to collate the information in scope of the remainder of your 
request would impair the efficient administration of this office. This is because the information 
requested, which includes the total number of interview requests received and rejected, 
broken down by media outlet, is not held in an easily retrievable format. I am therefore 
refusing these parts of your request under section 18(f) of the Act as the information 
requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research. 
 
Before reaching this decision, I have considered whether extending or charging would 
alleviate the reason for the refusal. However, I have determined the manual work required to 
collate the information would impair efficient administration, such that neither extending nor 
charging would alleviate the reason for refusal.
