With regards your OIA request asking for:
Information on any university funds that have been al ocated to the promotion of books
authored by Vice Chancel or Salesa. Specifical y, I would like to know:
• The total amount of AUT money spent on hosting functions to promote these books both
in New Zealand and overseas.
• A breakdown of any costs incurred, including but not limited to marketing, catering costs
events, books purchased by AUT to gift to external parties, and other staff time.
• Any AUT policies regarding the use of university funds for the promotion of staff
members’ personal publications.
A launch event for the book An Indigenous Ocean: New Perspectives from the Pacific took
place at AUT.
The cost for this event was $6,500 of which AUT paid 75%. The remaining costs were split
between the book publisher and Professor Salesa. The costs incurred were for catering at
$32.50 per person.
AUT purchased 15 copies of the book from the publishers at a cost of $326.03 and an
additional three copies from retail stores at a cost of $155.
AUT frequently supports and celebrates staff members who publish books by hosting book
launch events, and promoting their work through our internal and external communications
channels (intranet, website, social media). AUT does not allocate marketing funds for this
purpose.
