Dear James
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 13 February 2025. You
requested:
Please provide the costs
of legal counsel involved in the prosecution of Liz
Gunn for the Auckland Airport assault incident that was recently overturned
by the High court.
This should include any outside counsel required for the High Court hearing.
On 25 February 2025, your request was partially transferred to Crown Law for information
relating to the High Court appeals, which Police does not hold. Police's response to your
request is in relation to the original prosecution up to and including the completion of the
District Court stage.
The Police Prosecution Service did not engage any legal counsel for this prosecution as
the case was managed by our team. We do not have any means by which to quantify the
costs associated with our business as usual, therefore your request is refused under
section 18(g) of the OIA as this information is not held.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
Sarah McKenzie
