Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 10 February 2025,
regarding the procedures followed with the use of tactical options within New Zealand
Police.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you. My response to your
request can be found below.
Procedures when Police firearms are being actively carried/worn on Police
members during incidents.
Procedures when Police tasers and firearms leave and enter a Police station.
Procedures involving Police carrying/holding weapons while handling/interacting
with a person in custody and/or is being detained.
And any other procedures that involve the use of Police Batons, pepper spray
and other weapons.
The New Zealand Police Manual comprises al instructions and guidance in chapters for
administrative and operational aspects of policing, including national y consistent
standard operating principles, practices, policies and procedures (sometimes referred to
broadly as ‘policy’).
Procedures regarding the use of tactical options by New Zealand Police are contained in
