[FYI request #30026 email] Tēnā koe Emma
Thank you for your email of 10 February 2025 to the Department of Corrections – Ara
Poutama Aotearoa, requesting information about Honeywell. Your request has been
considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested:
Please provide me with the dates of all meetings with the Chief Executive of
Corrections, or representatives of the Chief Executive, and employees or
representatives of Honeywell Inc.
Please provide me with the minutes of those meetings.
On 18 February 2025, Corrections advised you that we have contracted Honeywell for the
provision of electronic security systems since 2003. We asked if there was a specific
timeframe or topic you were seeking.
On 20 February 2025, you refined your request to include meetings since 2017.
Corrections engages in regular meetings with Honeywell, which are agreed upon as part of
our contract. For example, there are meetings that occur on a monthly basis, as well as at
intervals of two to three months, and six monthly. This doesn’t include ad hoc meetings,
which often occur numerous times per day.
In order to provide a response to your request we would need to conduct a manual search
across multiple filing systems, prisons, and teams, to establish when meetings with
Honeywell have occurred, and whether any minutes were taken. If minutes were taken,
these would need to be manually reviewed for any information we would need to withhold
under the provisions of the OIA.
Accordingly, your request is refused under section 18(f) of the OIA, as the information
requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
In accordance with sections 18A and 18B of the OIA, we have considered whether fixing a
charge, extending the time limit or asking you to refine or amend your request would

enable us to provide a response. However, given the scale of the request, we do not
consider this would be an appropriate use of our publicly funded resources.
