Dear Tyler
Official Information Act request relating to [Tyler] Royal assent of the Maritime Powers
Act 2022
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 27 January
2025. You requested:
Is it possible to provide the following on Public Act 2022 No. 23, the Maritime
Powers Act 2022? I am looking for:
- A copy of the Act as passed with signature of the Royal Assent.
- Documents submitted to the Governor-General for royal assent to the Act
(including any certificate from the House of Representatives about the passage
of the relevant Bill, and any certificate signed by the Attorney-General about the
giving of royal assent).
Your request is refused under section 18(g) of the Act, as the documentation requested is
not held by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and I have no grounds for
believing that the information is held by another agency subject to the Act.
Once an Act has been signed it is held by the Office of the Clerk of the House of
Representatives and then transferred to Archives New Zealand after a certain period of time.
I understand that the copy of the legislation you are seeking is likely to be currently held by
Archives. An additional copy of the signed Act also goes to the High Court. Neither the Office
of the Clerk nor the Courts are covered by the Act, so I am unable to transfer this request to
them.
However you can contact Archives New Zealand at
https://www.archives.govt.nz/ or the
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Gerry Brownlee at the following website:
Who we are - New Zealand Parliament (www.parliament.nz). You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
This response wil be published on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s
website during our regular publication cycle. Typically, information is released monthly, or as
otherwise determined. Your personal information including name and contact details will be
removed for publication.
Yours sincerely
