Re: Mowing / weeding Cambridge Terrace
Thank you for your email dated 24 January 2025, in which you requested information about
Mowing/Weeding in Cambridge Terrace. The specific details of your request and our response
are below.
Please provide a line-item breakdown for each day from the start of this current
financial year to date which shows the following:
•
Type of work undertaken - I.e. weed eating, lawnmowing, seeding, trimming
•
Cost
•
Date of work
I would like to gain this information for both the Rugby playing field, which is based on
Cambridge Terrace, Devonport and also the Devonport Domain, which is also based on
Cambridge Terrace.
Please also factor into this request any work that is undertaken on the berms that are
located opposite the Rugby playing field which are outside the bowling club. Please
can you also advise what the earliest time is that your contractors from Ventia are
permitted to start, as there was a contractor who decided last week that it was okay to
start at 5:45 a.m. in the morning with his weed eater. He subsequently used said weed
eater to cut the berm and they leave the grass clippings splayed all over the road and
footpath.
Please find the attached document (Attachment ‘A’)
, an Excel workbook with three
spreadsheet tabs. The tabs are labelled ‘Vauxhall Sportsfields’, ‘Devonport Domain’ and
‘Combined’. Each spreadsheet lists the type and date of all work completed by the contactor
over the period July 2024 to end January 2025. In the ‘Contractor Team’ column ‘Tahi’ is the
name for a specific grouping of Local Board areas that the contractor (Ventia NZ Ltd)
services. The Tahi area includes Devonport-Takapuna.

Please note that the berms” located opposite the Rugby playing field which are outside the
bowling club” are also completed as part of the Devonport Domain asset.
Al services have been included in the spreadsheet:
• Passive Mowing (for Vauxhall Sportsfields that is mowing outside of the sportsfields
itself. For Devonport Domain, that is the mowing of the Domain and the berm)
• Playgrounds
• Horticulture (the reference to ‘Horticulture V2’ covers all aspects of garden works -
this can be trimming, weeding and spraying)
• Hard Surfaces
• Sports (as noted in spreadsheet, this includes work on the sportsfields, such as
mowing, line marking, pitch maintenance, etc.).
Al the above services are covered under the lumpsum contract, this means Council pays a
set amount for the services above to meet our contract requirements. We do not pay for
individual visits.
The cost of work has been withheld pursuant to
section 7(2)(b)(i ) of the Local Government
Of icial Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA); I
t would be likely unreasonably to
prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the subject of the
information.
We have had no contractor teams start at 5.45am at either of these sites. The earliest
anyone started the job was at 6.29am on 16/1/25, which was a sportsfields mowing job and
the operator must do their toolbox, pre-start and any maintenance, before turning on the
mower. These prechecks include sign in, a site safety check, and the completion of health
and safety checklists for both staff and equipment.
Please note that, in addition to lodging a LGOIMA request, Auckland Council provides
opportunities to:
